I got the chance to go with my Daddy Long Legs like old Chingu Yeong Kim to visit his fathers burial mound. What an interesting trip. Started at about 11:30 with a trip to Punggi to pick up some famous rice cakes (very expensive) that his father liked. Then we visited his childhod friends family and had a huge 20 piece side dish lunch. Theb we went next door to visit more inlaws.. more food fun anf fellowship. The last house we ate at was a 80 ajumma who was recollecting the first time she saw a black person.. The korean war... She said she was so scared that she ran! He friend who is younger only remembers that " the black people were the ones to give me chocolate- the white people would not"... We then climbed a windy hilly mountain that rounded into a clearing with a noticable mound carve in to the acove of the mountain. He displayed the rice cakes, bowed twice, and hesitated a moment in reflection. We left and went to Seosu suwon to have patpinsu! The we went back to good ole Yeongju to visit a traditional tea shop and have green tea..

When I first started this blog in April ish 2008 I thought i'd be on an adventure for 1 year. It was fun exciting and interesting and hard and painful and a one of a kind experience. I decided to stay a 2nd year. It feels like this is my norm now! I really need to keep it moving but it really feels comfy to just stay in this opne lil town and just be..... lots of things have happened good and bad... but it seems just like blimps on the made for tv movie screen that is my life.

I'm still utterly single. CourtB is still my Best Chingu. I met some cool people but and i've made some enemies. i've been depressed outta my drome and I've been happier than I've ever been. And I have a secret!

So 2010 rolled in like a 18 wheeler and I had to throw my ass into overdrive to keep up. I've been working and partying nonstop. I set a few goals for this bright and shiny new year.. some similar to the years before and some a lil different: Lose weight, but gain more independence. Exercise my body , but also find ways to exercise my mind. DO 5 things I've NEVER done before. I have no idea what they will be.. maybe one will be actually complete a resolution LOL. I miss my friends so much it hurts.. but everything is starting to hurt a lil less these days. I think I'm growning up?

SO I just finished watching the newly released movie ‘This is it” and I felt like I had to try and do SOMETHING to connect with people who can understand what I’m going through right now. …because I'm feeling really crazy.

I’ve been completely smitten with Michael since I was too young to remember. I’ve enjoyed every performance, song, and dance he’s done many times over. I like to sing and dance to his music while I’m.... well just about anywhere. He’s without a doubt a very special and important part of my life. Some of my friends and family don’t understand my passionate obsession with the King of Pop… They think ‘ sure he’s got cool moves and great songs but we don’t even really care for the guy’ It’s not like that for me.. I think about him at least once everyday for what has now been my life. I know the songs inside and out and the move me beyond words, to tears, to deeper understanding of myself and other in the world, to greater heights than I’ve ever known.

I know, from the screaming fans I’ve seen passing out on screen, or imitating his dance moves to a on youtube, or devoting lives to looking more like him….., that I’m not the only one. But I still seem to be the only one around feeling a lil’ lost and hopeless. Y'know I find myself wishing to be around people that were ok with a conversation saturated with notes on Michael, or stories about how music changed my life, or even no conversation at all.. just listening to the music together and feeling connected to something great.

Don’t think that I’m a MJ Psycho.. that’s simply not the case.. I just miss so terribly the best thing that never happened to me.

I'm so tired of the people who hold any kinda of position of authority being an absolute scaredy cat panty waste, who makes decisions that benefit no one and accomplish jack. I'm tired of being screwed over by the guys that barely have the title that they are tryna lord over and smite you down with. What the piss man? So another principal comes into the camp and everyone believe him to be genuinely kosher.. but as always, I have my doubts. He 's a man, he's koream, and he's old.. he's prolly a dirty bird bastard!

Any how he's tryna jip me outta 2 weeks of vactaion time. This time is
owed to me becasue i didn't go home for 2 weeks in between my renewal. I was supposed to be able to just take the time offthis winter.. where we all know there is not shit to do at school but look at the walls.

ARGH.. if I don't get the time.. i'm simply gonna leave mid contract which is Dec 8. Plenty of time to go home and find a boo before christmas. Maybe get married to my childhood sweetheart (wink). Make up some lost time with friends and family. And enjoy being an american whilst all the haters continue in there adoration of.... Shit I welcome contracting swine flu so long as it's on US soil..

I got to school today for work. Hopped on facebook to play some serious sorority life. And I see all these rest in peace MJ updates. It hit me that i'd hear 2 MJ song on the bus to work and as usual they brightened my day. I thought that maybe it could be a hoax but upon cheking verifiable news sources.. i found out its true. the tears that came them still flow as i write. I feel so devestated. My thooughts and prayers go out to his family and his loved ones- people like me tucked way in the corners of the earth forever inspired, faithfully in love and hopelessly devoted to this magical man. Ever since i was little i remember praying for my loved ones at night before i went to bed. God bless Mom, brother, grandma, grand pa, family cat, and Michael Jackson....

I know he's better off but i will miss him more than anyone can ever realize.

New Beginnings

So I finally escaped the confines of the workplace I like to call Yeongju's English Slave Center. I'm working at a brand new job. It's heaven sent.. I didn't even really want to come here.. but i'm thinking about never leaving. The life of the English teacher need not be hard, tiresome, and uninspired as was my last job. Save the awful gov't issued curriculum and the distance away from the city.. Everythings good. I'm still living in a hotel because my apartment is being built. The kids are top quality and not as judgemental as the city kids were. I don't feel like I have to wear my battle gear here.

I'm spliting my weeks between 3 schools.

In the face of the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza virus, the Korean government has raised its pandemic alert level to 2 out of 4, and is carrying out emergency procedures 24 hours a day to prevent the spread of the virus. In Korea, public fears over a possible full-blown pandemic are diminishing after the patients who had contracted the H1N1 virus made full recoveries, but of course vigilance is still necessary. Korean health authorities have tightened quarantine measures, and incoming passengers from infected countries are being thoroughly checked and monitored to detect any signs of infection. These passengers are also being called afterwards to check whether they have developed any flu-like symptoms. Moreover, two sets of heat sensors have been placed at airports to detect travelers with fevers and in-flight quarantine procedures are also being carried out if deemed necessary. The Korean government has a good history of responding quickly to the outbreak of a pandemic. When the severe SARS and AI viruses broke out, Korea remained safe thanks to its influenza monitoring system and quarantine measures. Park Seung-chul, Chairman of New Influenza Emergency Measure Committee said the World Health Organization (WHO) had applauded Korea’s influenza monitoring system and rapid response measures.

Four corners
Number the corners from 1 to 4 and assign an English vocabulary word to each number. Select one student to be "It." That person closes his or her eyes while the rest of the students go to one of corners in the classroom. When all students are settled in a corner, It calls out a number. All the kids who chose the corner with that number are out of the game and must sit down. It closes his or her eyes again, calls out a number or word, and more students sit down. When the game gets down to 4 people or fewer, each must choose a different corner. If It calls out a corner where nobody is standing, It must choose again. The game continues until only one student is left. That student becomes It.
Restaurant: Making a Smoothie or Shake

My Bday was great.. better than I expected. I guess it doesn't hurt that i partied for 3 days straight. I'm soo tired it's not even funny. I'm so thankful that i had so many people so crunk and disorderly around me- kept my mind off of all the drama that's been afloat. I just wanna get back to living life, and loving it.

I'm English teacher in Yeongju in the very rural Gyeongbuk province. I don't have an understanding of Korean law, but I think my public English Center is doing some pretty shifty things. So I'm just writing to relieve stress and maybe get some help understanding an clarifying if what's been happening gives me . I'm beyond my cause to formally complain.... I have called every office of ministry to ask for help and they keep telling me I should ask elsewhere. 'I'm pretty much at wits end and I just want to get out of this nightmare -fairly. I know that rural schools are let off the hook alto because of their status, but they take small town politics to a new level.
1. Many teachers are hired and work for months without visas. These teachers are paid through other teachers accounts
2. The school often obligates us to work overtime without extra pay.
3. School obligates us to work extra English camps during vacation time. We are paid extra- however the rate of pay is changed drastically and without warning. usually after the camps are over
4. The school obligates teachers to attend impromptu dinners and noraebangs after school hours which last 6-8 hours.
5. School principal openly sexually harasses and man handles female teachers while drunk at said dinners and noraebangs.
6. The school does not recognize the contractual 15 paid sick days in our contracts. Teachers are hassled while sick and forced to come in anyways.
7. I am eligible for a pay grade for a EPIK GET level 2. However I was threatened into signing a contract that says GET 3. After many discussions- my pay grade level went up to level 2. However the contract says level 3. I've complained but was told it's a non issue. Now( after 10 months) the school is claiming overpayment: they are lowering my salary and taking my severance pay to compensate.
8. I requested a meeting with my school board where I discussed concerns about contracts, teaching hours, and teachers health. Afterwards, I actually ended up in the hospital for 4 days. Due to this I am being asked to non resign at my school. However it's been our understanding that i would resign since January; therefore I am not prepared for a move or another job search.
9. I've requested meeting with my principal and City board of Education- however, they are friends and are both refusing a face to face meeting, refusing all calls, and not responding to emails.
10.My principal wants me to write a letter stating that I don't want to resign. When I refused I was threatened with a poor reference and possible black listing for my particular town.
11. Our school is a center that operates with 8 teachers. We are losing 4 teachers in one month. There are no other teachers to take our spots. 2 of the teachers happen to be Caucasian and they have been written and formally asked to resign, however myself and the only other African American teacher want to resign and are being rejected. My co teacher informs me that the principal would like more Caucasian teachers for better image.
12. I secured a new job to go to .. however my principal called and got my offer withdrawn.

ake a Taxi to Southern (route) Bus Terminal (about 25 km from Bangkok city center, cost $110-$160 B). Take Bus #78, $64 B. The trip takes about 2 hours. Get off at Damnern Saduak. Do not get suck in by the boat tour operator at the bus station. They want "Standard" price of $1000 B for one hour long tail boat tour. Instead, walk outside the parking lot and turn left to town. A short 10 - 15 minutes walk and you will arrive at the bridge over looking the floating market. You can then hire a non-motor boat tour for $100 - $200 B at the floating market.

Yesterday I went to a really snazzy chinese restaurant opening and to the 2nd night opening of a Noraebang in town. It was a wonderful experience. It was chill but it was Andy's "another waygook teacher " s last night in town. I wonder how it's gonna feel when it me leaving town. It seems to be geting hard to see people go. If I stay I'll have to welcom all new faces and the dynamic that i'm so used to will change.. maybe better maybe worse.

Thailand is waiting impatiently for my arrival and I couldn't be happier. It seems unreal. I'm actually an international girl now! I'm considering doing another year in korea and then changing to South American ESL teaching. SOmewhere in between i need to pick up a TOEFL certificate.

The work place is dragging slow but buzzing with a happy tiredness from being woren out, ridden hard, and put up wet!

Bitch- I've been Drankin'! Yes a little more than needed.. But life has been upside down side i step on a plane heading east. It's been a rat race of lesson planing. Parties for the kids, parties for the grown up kids and christmas and new years flew by without my permission- mind you. And vactaion time is upon me.

I've started hanging out armed in group think memnatlity. Courtney, Myself, and Jovianna- the new edition to the journey to Korea. Extremely cool chick who's coming to THAILAND as well.

Booking tickets and hotels has been rough but it's becoming obvious that there is a good time to be had in thailand. We're going to be in the BANGKOK area.

Much more to come..pretty soon my year will be over although I'm 95 % sure that i'm going to resign at the same place.. if they wanna keep me.

Media quick to place blame unfairly on minorities

Election Night was wonderful for me – mostly because I did not learn about the passing of Amendment 2 until the following morning. I’m just explaining my deflation factor on November 5th when CNN announced that Amendment 2 had passed in Florida, Proposition 8 had passed in California and it was all because of “black voters newly registered by the Obama campaign.” The evidence for this harsh accusation was CNN’s own exit polls…which revealed that 65% of black voters had voted “Yes” on Amendment 2. I felt so betrayed – mostly by all the black voters that I had been registering and giving encouragement to over the last 3 months. How could this happen? Did they not listen to Barack’s message of diversity and acceptance? I quickly sobered from my disillusionment when I took a closer look at these exit polls and realized that not only CNN, but Fox, MSNBC and CBS were all basically lying to us in a concentrated effort to blame the anti-gay amendments on the black community. Do the math: CNN says that 4,755,000 people voted "Yes" on Amendment 2, and they say that 71% of Blacks voted "Yes" on the Amendment. But black voters make up only 11% of the electorate—approximately 523,000 people in this election—and 71% of them voting “yes” means you get a whopping 371,000 people. That’s 8% of the total 4.75 million “yes” votes. That paints a much different picture, doesn’t it?

So, at the end of the day, we need to place blame squarely where it’s due – back on the white, rural, Christian conservative Republicans over the age of 40, whose tyranny put this measure on the ballot to begin with. Do not let the media conquer us with division…even if the lowest blows come from that sexy little silver-haired newscaster we all admire so much. There is a subtle conspiracy between the media and its Republican advertisers to absolve themselves of responsibility when things get out of hand. A constitutional amendment that specifically targets gays and lesbians is definitely out of hand, and it’s right out of the Jim Crow playbook – Disenfranchisement For Dummies. Governor Charlie Crist supported Amendment 2 and needs to be chastised as well. We have a new President whom, thanks to a majority of Florida voters, disagrees with our Governor on Amendment 2. As we work to reverse this hateful act of discrimination (by whatever means necessary) we must always keep in mind that almost 3 million concerned Floridians said “No” to Amendment 2 and meant it. My new campaign motto is “Yes We Did… and we’ll keep doing it too!”

Everday I wake up and kiss the moning sky and greet myself in the mirror with kindness and adoration. It's become ritualistic. Because I know hen i walk out the door it immediately becomes STRANGWORLD.. where dirty old men try to grab and fondle you as you walk down the street. Old women eyeball you with a dead pan stare. Small children laugh and jeer and point or scream and run away when the see me. Taxi drivers tell me their life story- in korean- which i tell them i don't understand (in korean) .. they also never forget to tell me how big size or S curvy I am, some of them propasition me for sex- none of them succeed.
It seems I'm placed myself in a battle field. Sure i'm safe at point A and Point B... but getting there is hell. Some days I'd rather just stay in bed!

On October 25th We will be having Yeongju's first ever Amazing Race! I know I've spoken to some of you about my idea to have an amazing race in Yeongju. We've decided to host in on Saturday the 25th of October (so in about 2 weeks)All wheygooks and friends are invited so please spread the word. I'm not friends with everyone on facebook!OK, so this is how it's going to work. On Saturday the 25th we'll meet at a location at about 1 or 2. From there each team will be given the first 6 tasks. To complete the tasks you need to have photographic evidence of each group member participating! The tasks haven't been finalized yet and I was hoping people could post ideas for tasks. Once the first 6 are done, your team will have to meet me somewhere to get the next 6.First team at the final location and with all their photos-wins the race. We'll end it off at a bar somewhere so we can drink the night away!!!

There will be rules...1) no couples are allowed to be on the same team. If you've watched the show you'l know that these kinds of things can end in divorce!2) each team should have 4 team members3) No same sex teams4) no more than 1 person who can speak Korean on a team (where possible)5) we will try to minimize co-workers on teams. For example: the English center guys could not all be on one team6) if you have a run-in with the police-you can not use this game as an excuse!7) no driving!!!!!!!!!!!! You can take taxis.8) all members have to participate in all tasks and there must be photographic evidence to prove this.9) each team must have a theme and dress accordingly. There will be a cash prize for the best dressed team10) 10 000 won per person, to be used for the prizes

The fire of our office spirirt that burned brightly has since extinguished. Yes we talked and yes i cried, and yes there was an assurance that the atrocities wouldn't continue to happen and the was even a promis for a better days. But I know this... Things will never go back to being the same. Not really.. now genuine love care and affection is going to be replaced with careful indifference, feined interest ,and quiet sulking. Because I don't want to beleive in someone and let them hurt me twice and they ,i'm sure, fear the wrath and two women mistreated and scorned. I don't blame them for their caution , but no one can blame me for mine.

Again my recruiter has been miraculously helpful and prompt, but i still don't know wether to stay of go. I must talk to administretion next week. Hey if anybody knows of any job openings that would blow me outta the waters... lay them on me!

To lift my spirits there's a new guy on the horizon that seems to have some damn sense and to be quite caring and attentive..DID SOME ONE SAY ATTENTION???? ATTN HO STRIKES AGAIN..

SO.. it's day two.. and i'm still angry at the world and PMS doesn't help. I feel like i need to write now when i am upset becasue i'm sure in time everything will work out. Either things will change or I will leave and I won't be as expressive. But if you are reading this out there and you are seriously considering being a traveling teacher I feel it's my duty to let you know the extent of my strife. Know that no feeli lasts forever.. I'm feeling better than the day before but at least now you won't get obver here think that everything is peachy keen. This country has got it's own problems just like yours does. I'm trying to be sympatheic to the fact that 60% of my stress comes from being shocked b/c of the way things are done. But that's just it.. that's the way things are done here!!! it can't be changed in a day or in the year that i'm here.. but the more expats that come and endure ..it changes the dynamic for those to follow. I'm sure the people who were here before me had some hell. Korea will pledge the hell fire from you and never ever let you cross.

Concerning the recent situation. I've decided that though i can't make anyone change how the run their office and though i can't make the other teachers stop going along with our employers childish antics ( maybe they are worried about job security). I CAN NOT BE SILENT. I WON"T JUST LET IT HAPPEN without saying something to let everyone in on what my pliht looks like. And maybe that will compell them.. but if not... it'll still make me feel like i accomplished something.

I recieved some apologies and so has my friend. However the office space vibe is in shambles. I duno how to act.. but I can't pretend that i am happy when I'm not. Tommarrow I plan to talk about the issue at our much needed staff meeting. I'm no longer so angry or hurt I just want to find closure and get on with my work. Cuz God knows I love my children. They are the reason why I am here. The appreciate me and they understand so much more than I ever realized. They can tell when i'm unhappy and they care. They reflect my mood and for them I want to be nothing but smiles and sunshine. I refuse to be depressed b/c i'm not dead yet so chances are.. i just got a lil stronger.

I did have to attend a going away celebration for on of the teachers. I'm going to miss him. However i certainly wasdn't in the mood for entertaining our administration. First dinner with uncomfortable conversation because i'm really someone who hates avoiding the obvious conversations that need to take place. At one point i think i heard 2 admins talking about the reason behind my sour mood. Reason being that i hate being treated like a token negro. As the nigt wore on we were forced into norabang to sing. I honest almost cried at one point becuz there's no place i wanted to be less! I'm cramping like hell, singing the special song that my friend always sang for me, which eerily happened to be appropiate for the situation and my mood, and missing home and missing my home girl. I know everything happens for a reason.. so i'm justing trying to figure out what that is. What i need to change, what mistakes am i making .

I plan to start looking for an english speaking church somewhere near by. I've been lax in doing so for 4 months. i'm resourceful for finding everything else i want .. i need to get in that to!

THEY DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT US

It feels like a sad country western song: I lost my best friend, I was descriminated against and completely let down by my co workers.

I'm in sick disbelief and awe today. It has to have been one of the worst 24 hours i've spent in korea that's including my hospital time.

My best friend had to go away suddenly. I didn't know that last night would be the last time I'd ever see her. The pain of it all is indescribable but i've been a wreck since. I didn't even have time to grieve before I was slapped in the face by my good old nemisis: PREJUDICE..

It seem that for some reason my employer likes to designate extercurricular community tasks to my fellow co workers.. all who happen to not be black. To be fair lets' do the math: there are 8 teachers total, 2 teacher are considered aids ,1 teacher is part time .. that leaves only 5 teachers that are available to do any other sidework- english festivals and etc. Of those 5 teacher only my myself and my best friend court b are black.

There has been exactly 5 occasions ( maybe more b/c no on tells me) where some or all of these teachers have been asked secretly to participate in an event and then specified not to mention to any other tecahers. This is done intentionally supposedly so the left out tecahers won't feel bad. WHO ARE THEY FOOLING: there are only 2 teachers left out everytime! AND we have ears and we heard them proposition you b/c we are all in the same damn room. What's more.. it only serves to rub in the discomfort and bad feeling of ill will by purposefully being deceptive.

I'm livid at this point because A: someone up there thinks I'm not good enough to be in the public eye( wonder why) and B: the other teachers actually went along with this. I'm only 25and i'm the youngest person in the office and i had suggest to grown ass people that when someone tells you to do something that is immoral.. you save your pride and tell them to go fuck themselves. These are people I worked with, cared about, struggled to understand and they all just sat there with guilty faces but with rambling words that didn't explain why they dropped the ball ;and all the while acted as if we were being UNREASONABLE by pointing out all these facts for everyone.

SO the current bitch session in question is about a English festival that both of us weren't even told about HOWEVER they do need us to work extra classes that day because the teacher who are better or more special than you must be gone to an assignment that we wanted to hide from you. Folks one of the teachers actually backed out and didn't want to participate.. KNOW WHAT- We 2 other teachers are not even the alternative. They got another teacher from a whole other school across town to take that teacher's place and guess what hunny.....

After I explain my thoughts about this situation i was meet with a half ass-ed apology that merely blamed the occurrence on our Principal's assistant. The witch hunt continues b'cuz I'm talking to his ass tomorrow. I even received a personal; apology email that wasn't to my satisfaction. I see now that I'm not going to be satisfied until everyone knows every thing that happened and exactly how i feel about it all.. and then I'm gonna need better answers then what these gum shoes are kicking up.

I can't believe I travelled 7,300 miles across land ocean and sea to be discriminated against by a Korean employer who wanted me here so i can teach little Korean children how to be an AMERICAN. fuck me I can be discriminated against at home where i can drive up to a McDonald's afterwards and shake off whatever hater was upon me with some hot fries and some chicken nuggets.

The thought of army navy and marine guys and dolls make me think about ROTC in college, which triggers memories of living on a military posts going to military , private, and catholic schools. it remind me of another me. I think that the one thing i personally can't live with out is other people. Because there's a phenomenon that happens when two distinctly different entities, bodies, minds, souls, form an invisible connection of understanding. like looking at the same picture and think the same thing and knowing with out a doubt what the other is thinking. I think it is profound and it makes the experience - good or bad- a worthwhile and interesting endeavor. That said.. I'm just not getting that here. i see something everyday that makes me laugh or smile and I'm alone and i can't share the experience through blog or explanation b/c it would take a million words and still not be complete. As far as i know this is what is killing my mood.. I'm sad at all the moment that should be great for me are now Luke warm. I'm not even as excited about Thailand.. b/c without someone to share it with it's just another plane ride to see some dirt buildings and another language that i don't understand... what's a chickie to do!

I am at a low point in my stint in Korea. I think maybe i'm losing my focus. My shrink used to tell me that it's good to write down your plan so you don't lose sight of it while hashing out the path to get to it. But you know i love communicating.. talking and i felt like in America i wasn't meet ing any new people and having intellectually stimulating convos. But in korea everyone speaks awful English or Korean. Some one the foreigners here are OK.. but lots are busy and lots are not good people. So what's a chickie to do. I think maybe i should move to a big city and sign a new contract- that means breaking the current one which is not great but.. i haven't told anyone what I've been thinking. What do you think?

sigh..... another Korean wtf!!!! moment... A bank transfer that i made recent has no showed for 5 days. SO it's time to break out the beat a ho sticks. I had a Korean teacher call the bank to explain the situation. ( You guys kinda sorta maybe made a mistake with account numbers-please fix?)

Then I went to the bank.. they said they were on lunch.. so i waited an hour.. Then the guy who did the transfer came back and said sorry and smiled and spoke Korean.. oh lawd. so i called the school for Korean translation..... they just spoke to each other and he told me to wait.. 20 minutes later.. my Korean teacher arrived. YAY! Nooooo. we must wait for the transaction to be reserved.. maybe takes 7 days... but maybe longer because tomorrow is a Korean holiday. AHHHHH! I plan to go back Monday w/ my sour face and see if it gets done any faster.. i can't believe that i wrote all the correct info :perfect on a KOREAN ass Form that i have m\no clue about.. showed him a TYPED out version of the info to check my info.. and he STILL entered the wrong G?D&!;?*^#&^ numbers.. the routing number and then the routing number as the acct number except change one digit.

Korea has been mean and ugly to me at times...But also it's been sweet and gentle... We have a LOVE / HATE relationship that rivals Ike and Tina's .. I just hope our Relationship survives times test of trial and tribulations, fears, doubts, and extrema frustration, etc. Because I really feel like we have a lot to learn from each other. Yesterday i named some of the new batch of 3rd grade children that came to my class. I let them all choose names from a long list of names I compiled. I realized I named every one from back home, Clif Vanessa,regina, terrence, joey, eric, Michael and Janet jackson, quinten, jt aj.. kanika anitra, landon, vela, donna, betsy, brandon, tj taj, taryll.. on and on the kids picked out names. I now have a Michael, janet, jackson,Courtney, and Kanika. more to come today....

Also yesterday was my best Boo Quinten's Bday..We've shared a lot of "firsts" together but yesterday the first b-day in 5 years he's spent with out me and and my ubber crazy antics.... and he's sad and he misses me... andI'm sad and I miss im so much I want to go home to cheer him up. It's so badthat I'm considering not going to Thailand and instead heading back to the states. What on earth could make me feel this compulsively ...nothing less than the need to quench my thirst of unrequited LOVE! Quinten is the kind of guy that doesn't say much, doesn't start mess, and at the same time doesnm't F*ck around when it comes to kickin' azz! A gentle spirit, but a firery soul. We all get called in to a meeting with our new supervisor of One week. I'm just thankful that she didn't turn out to be a fire breathing dragon! She is honestly a nice lady who is just as late as me every morning. She sits us all down and explains that our numbers of students are flailing.. obviously we aren't doing something wrong. The suggestions from the principal are to 1. Talk More 2. Be careful 3. Don't Use So Much Media and 4. Try to bond with the students.. so basically anything short of flipping tricks to keep the students a coming to the take you money palace.

My question is Do you really want English teachers or Side show ponies?? Nobody likes a teacher who actually teaches.. yes we learn but not it's not alwasy fun. On the flip side If we make classes a nonstop circus ( no offense mc mong) then how are we serving these children?? How is that helping their English skills?

The school principal has a crackerjack team with unbelievable skills in his back pocket .. how do i know? Becasue we've been operating with NO korean teachers and NO textbook and NO materials and still we've been beating out all the other schools and hagwons. Only 9 months later do we wane and only slightly... gimme a break.. this is for the birds... I wish the principal would take some of the cash spent on group dinners , soju and beer and buy us a box of textbooks.

Okay .... so my soju bomb went off a couple days ago... And he's the reason. I'm totally smitten for this guy and I think he could totally be me ..... I KNOW that he could complete get into me. So he plays the we can just be friends card... I take the card at first but have been forever burning the edges. He's so perfect for me and I don't like the fact that i don't even get the chance, y'know.

Reality and many good friends say i should let go of my love luster for this guy and continue on to a more serious relationship with this American guy I've been hanging out with and talking to. He's a perfect package. He calls, he cares, he's fine ( mnn mnn yes he is), and he's military, he's funny and has a personality that entertains me and parallels my own - I should be throwing myself upon his combat boots!!

But I feel like I'm missing out either way, and I just don't like the feeling of not getting my way. Besides there are 4 other guys holding my slight attention besides these two main dishes. Don't get me wrong.. dating is sooooo much fun. I shouldn't be so sprung again so quickly cuz lawd knows that is NOT where i wanna be. I'm still paying my dues for the last 2 loves come and gone and now I'm banking on number 3! Today folks.. I'm punking myself! I am the only who chose to let go of loving and spend my life traveling and exploring.. sentiments would only slow me down. So yes I'm lamenting my decision now .. but i am resolved to do it my own way. But in a bittersweet epic poem's way of telling a tale: I love him but I can't be in Love with him.

Dentist's and Other Woes

So #2 Korean LOVE de mi vida set myself and friend up with dental appointments with a English speaking Dentist. What Luck! RIGHT?.....WRONG!!! After abbreviating our weekend we show up for the appt only to be thrown into a chair, slung back , and poked prodded and drilled to submission. Again I'm thinking: I"M JUST BEING PUNK'D! The whole messy bloody and painful scraping only process tok about 20 minutes and after that I was charged 70 bucks with a 10 dollar discount ..... so 60. See ya next year! I walked away dejected and a little more of my self and my virtue gone down the drain in a pulpy blur. How will I ever make it!?

Speaking frankly about what's been going on.. Everyone knows it's a small world.. well Korea is even smaller. So some people found my bloggie and I've been hesitant to write least I write anything that may or may not hurt some one's feeling, but it's all about me right? And of course I know all you anonymouses out there want the 411.. So here goes....

Even since I got here it's been a very relaxed atmosphere. I work, I clean, I doodle, etc.. But at night my restless spirit kicks ups.. The temptation to gain attention is too strong for me to resist. Luckily there are alot of foreigners in our small town who have form a good network that allows for partying for bdays going aways, incoming ppl, just visiting..etc.. Also you never have to look far for someone to drink with on every night of the week and twice on Saturday. There's been a few late night early morning trips to other cities in a raid for American food and other similar delights. All these kind of fun occurrences are the experiences you can't buy with money. You pay for them with time off your life I'm sure. I'm sure some of my soul is still shining down up to the sidewalk thru a korean sewer wondering why is this happening to me!?

But the friends made here have a delicate balance. Just like in high school there are the cool kids and then the not so much. There are people who refuse to participate "if you're going to invite so and so". There are the perpetually alcoholics, the people who always skip out on the bill, the people who are never there, the people who are always there, the aspiring alkeys myself included, the ex professional drug addicts, the group that talks about everyone behind there backs, and then there are the beautiful ones that are the glue that hold the crew together in it genuine and haphazard form. It's dysfunctional and perfect! I have to say that on some level I really like each and everyone of these people. I hope that we'd keep in touch after the sojourn here is completed.. but the reality of it is.. that we are dropped off here together and free to be our true self's( or what ever self you wanna be) for a year... maybe 2 and then it's back to your reality where none of us exists and none of this ever happened and you have no one to recall the memory with. It reminds me of military living .. I've had so many best friends that i've never spoken to again it's not even funny.But it's an ingrained part of the life of a military brat.

because I'm really starting to dislike the Korean ones.
If you are a plus sized beauty then this post might be helpful to you. I know as a big girl in the state thinking of embarking my ass in to tiny women Korean Land .. I was hella worried about what the reactions to me would be like. No one had ever bothered to say.. I couldn't pschye myself out enough to believe that there are no fat korean ( b/c sumo wrestlers right?) or that there aren't any overweight people in the small and rural town I was coming too .. they've got TV right?

None the less upon arriving I was swamped with dirty stares, pointing fingers, crying babies, people asking for autographs, asking for sexual favors, and giving me 2 dollar discounts everywhere I went.... I stopped traffic.. so attention whore like me are used to it right...??? WRONG! There's no getting used to not knowing wether the person smiling at you wants to "Love You" or to cut your ass up with some chop sticks!!!
Obviously TV has not prepared them for my big black coming on to their smaill asian streets!!

This leads me bac to my tirade about.. you guessed it.. dudes.. They love me.. hands down ..
some of them might actually be able to "love me long time'.. But that doens't matter folks.. because I'll never get the chance to find out.. currently they are all running scared for their lives! Afraid i'll turn them black, or worse into a real man! Maybe mind blowing nookie is the stuffs crack is made of ..

Honestly I've always been the type of girl who appreciates a slightly effeminate guy. So korean men with their girlish charms, man- purses, eye make-up, and macho attitudes are the perfect mix for me. Even though Add that to the fact that there are millions of them who are single because their culture prefers boys ( inorder to carry on the family name) and have put themselves in a woman shortage. DAEGU- Doin' It big

Brandon and I spent a day and night in Daegu with my friend and awesome noraebang partner John. This city is mostly filled with college kids. reminds me of home .. good ole T.R.O.Y. !! So we got a love motel to stay in. Now I know and you know all the horroric fantastic and titilating stories about what goes on in love motel.. I found it to be a pleasant experience. it was clean , cheap, even comfy. I wasn't at all freaked out by the hooker cards that are laying outside the front door detailing the wares one could find inside. I just thought to myself that for a place to be so sexually repressed.. it is very casual about the tpoic of affairs and prostitution.. hey all in good fun right?

I need some advice... I’d love some input. I would describe myself as a deep thinker. At times I’ve been told that I think too much. I over analyze the hell out of anything and everything until I can find an answer that is firstly true, secondly explanatory, and lastly profound. It’s how I roll. The issue in question: the A-typical dating habits of Asian men. An by A typical I mean out and out freaking strange sometimes; completely alien. I had a friend who dated an Asian man for a year and had to deal all sorts of issues that typically American women usually don’t encounter. At first I though it comic, then absurd, and now after being Punked on each of the 78 days I’ve been in Korea over some crazy Korean way of doing things; I’m a believer. Why did I ever doubt? In my hazy American denial of all things un-American, I failed to realize that a guys M.O. might vary culture to culture. I know it’s a simple concept with a fallacy. But I thought to myself... “all things with penis’s think alike”. How wrong was I!?!?

So I have read article after article on the subject and even braved a few personal questions to my Korean guy and girl friends, and acquaintances. Even though I know all of this information is just generalizations and ARE NOT TRUE FOR ALL KOREAN MEN. I needed someone somewhere to clue me in a bit.

When it comes to Korean Men:"Bottom-line- expect to take the lead at every point in the relationship, but don't ever be so bold as to ask, request or demand."

“Also do not show him you care at all. Do not tell him you like love, any emotion nothing. Because.. they start to trip when u do. They are supposed to be the one that do all that.”

“They are big on how people look instead of what kind of person you are. They are really full of it. So treat his ass the way he treats you. “

I GO TO THE BAR TO SEE MY FRIEND SINGING ( SHE'S A LOUNGE SINGER). AND I AM ASSAILED BY THE OWNER OF THE BAR. HE TAKES MY PHONE .. STEALS MY NUMBER AND GIVES ME HIS BUSINESS CARD. THIS IS ALL BEFORE HE TRIES TO MAKE OUT WITH ME AGAINST MY WILL. .. AND AFTER HE AND HIS 4 GIRLY FRIENDS TRIES TO FEED ME RANDOM FISHY SNACKS. So we enter separate stalls and talk to each other through the doors.
